Seiring dengan perkembangan teknologi dan komunikasi, telah menempatkan internet menjadi layaknya sebuah kebutuhan pokok. Di Indonesia kesadaran masyarakat akan internet sudah berkembang sangat pesat. Terutama bagi mereka para pelajar, mahasiswa, pengajar dan masyarakat umum lainnya. Alternatif Aplikasi Internet Untuk Warnet

Setelah Priyadi menuliskan beberapa hal tentang warnet yang terkena sweeping, beberapa alasan untuk tidak memakai produk microsoft, beberapa alasan untuk masih memakai produk microsoft kemudian dilanjutkan dengan tulisan Mas Amal tentang subsidi warnet membuat saya tertarik untuk menuliskan beberapa aplikasi alternatif internet yang selama ini berjalan di Warnet

Salah seorang rekan saya, Haryadi yang saat ini tengah membuka usaha Warnet ‘terpaksa’ menggunakan sistem operasi Windows XP dengan harga reseller US$ 76 untuk per masing-masing client. Namun aplikasi yang berjalan didalamnya hampir sebagian besar menggunakan aplikasi open source seperti yang tertulis pada http://osswin.sourceforge.net.

Hampir sebagian user yang berada di warnet jarang menggunakan aplikasi-aplikasi khusus, karena sebagian besar hanya mengecek email, chatting ataupun browsing, jadi sebenarnya tidak dibutuhkan aplikasi yang terlalu rumit sebagai penggantinya.

Beberapa aplikasi yang selama ini sering dipergunakan dalam Warnet dan dapat digantikan oleh aplikasi open source / freeware seperti tertulis di bawah ini :

Browser IE yang dibundel menjadi satu dengan sistem operasi windows dapat digantikan dengan browser Firefox.
FTP Client menggunakan Filezilla
IRC Client menggunakan X-Chat 2
Messenger Client menggunakan Gaim
Perangkat Microsoft Office digantikan dengan OpenOffice.org
Remote Client menggunakan Putty
Aplikasi kompresi Winzip digantikan dengan 7-Zip.
Mail client menggunakan Sylpheed-Claws ataupun Mozilla Thunderbird.
Text Editor pengganti Notepad dapat menggunakan Crimson Editor.
Anti Virus dapat menggunakan Clamwin Antivirus
Winscp sebagai salah satu aplikasi secure copy (jarang dipergunakan oleh user warnet, kecuali usernya dalam kategori expert).

Selain aplikasi open source seperti yang tertulis di atas ternyata juga ada beberapa aplikasi lain yang dapat digunakan secara gratis untuk warnet walaupun dengan beberapa konsekuensi seperti adanya banner iklan. Antara lain :

Download Accelerator Plus sebagai Download Manager
Winamp sebagai aplikasi MP3.
Opera sebagai browser altenatif
Yahoo! Messenger untuk pemilik account yahoo!
Dan masih banyak aplikasi lainnya jika mau berusaha menggunakan google

Jika masing-masing client tersedia CD-RW seharusnya aplikasi Nero burning sudah tersedia ketika membeli CD-RW tersebut, jadi aplikasi tersebut dapat digunakan untuk masing-masing client, namun jika tidak tersedia dapat menggunakan cdrtools dengan front end yang tersedia disini atau disini.

Warnet sebagai salah satu UKM ketika berdiri pun sebenarnya sudah memiliki hitungan bisnis, jadi alangkah naifnya jika warnet yang didirikan tidak memperhitungkan harga sistem operasi ataupun aplikasi yang berjalan didalamnya (hal ini terlepas dari mahal atau murahnya harga software). Jadi sebenarnya alasannya harga aplikasi yang mahal bukanlah alasan yang tepat, karena masih tersedia aplikasi yang murah dan bahkan bisa dibilang gratis.

Beberapa trik yang dapat digunakan agar user dapat berpindah ke sistem operasi linux dapat dilakukan dengan cara

Dual boot antara sistem operasi windows dan linux. Konsekuensinya membutuhkan hard disk drive dengan ukuran yang cukup besar karena akan menampung dua buah sistem operasi.
Berikan discount khusus jika user menggunakan sistem operasi linux. Misalkan jika menggunakan Windows harga per jam 4000, maka jika menggunakan linux 3000 rupiah per jam
Adakan hari-hari tertentu untuk ‘linux day’ dengan dibantu adanya teknisi/pemandu dan discount khusus
Atau jika ada resource yang cukup, adakan pelatihan penggunaan aplikasi-aplikasi internet di linux.
Dan masih banyak lagi yang lain tergantung inovasi dan improvisasi anda disetiap daerah

Langkah Praktis Melawan SPAM

Spam atau email sampah pastilah akan sangat menjengkelkan penerimanya. Biasanya email sampah ini dikirim dalam bentuk iklan atau surat berantai. Dan yang lebih parah lagi jika spam ini sudah terkirim secara periodik ataupun dalam jumlah besar, tentunya akan sangat mengganggu mailbox kita.

Karena sifatnya yang sangat menjengkelkan ini, majalah Smart Computing menjulukinya sebagai ‘kecoa’. Hal ini tak lain karena sifat email yang dianggap sangat mengganggu dan ‘sampah’, sehingga kemudian sebutan ‘kecoa’ ini dianggap sangat mewakili. Dalam sebuah survey dilaporkan, rata-rata spam hadir selama 5 menit untuk setiap jam online, sehingga setara dengan 10 hari kerja dalam setahun.

Jika gangguan dari spam atau email sampah ini sudah sedemikian menjengkelkannya, kemudian adakah cara untuk melawan spam ini. Jawabannya tentu saja ada. Berikut ini merupakan langkah-langkah praktis yang dapat kita lakukan untuk melawan spam:

Jangan membuka email dari sumber yang tidak Anda kenal ataupun email yang bersubjek/topik mencurigakan pada judulnya. Jika Anda masih juga penasaran untuk mengetahui isinya, Anda dapat memanfaatkan feature ‘preview’ pada aplikasi email untuk mengetahui secara singkat isi pesan tanpa harus membuka email tersebut. Karena, dengan membuka email spam, maka para spammer akan menerima pesan notifikasi yang sama saja menyatakan bahwa alamat email tersebut valid, hal ini berarti membuka peluang selanjutnya untuk dikirimi spam-spam lagi.
Tidak menanggapi pesan spam. Sama halnya dengan membuka email spam, menanggapi pesan spam sama saja menyatakan bahwa alamat email tersebut aktif, sehingga juga membuka peluang untuk mendapatkan spam-spam berikutnya.
Tidak me-reply. Adakalanya para pengirim spam ini mengajak Anda untuk bergabung dalam sebuah mailing list. Hal yang terbaik adalah dengan mengabaikannya. Karena jika Anda bergabung, berarti Anda bersedia menerima sampah-sampah berikutnya. Namun jika Anda menolak dengan mengetikkan kata tertentu yang diminta (biasanya ‘remove’ atau ‘unsubscribe’) dan mengirimkannya dengan fasilitas ‘Reply’, tetap saja Anda berpeluang untuk menerima sampah-sampah berikutnya, karena dengan me-reply pesan tersebut sama saja Anda telah memperitahukan kepada pihak pembuat spam bahwa alamat email tersebut valid dan bisa dikirimi spam-spam berikutnya.
Memutuskan untuk berkata ‘tidak’. Pada banyak form aplikasi online, seringkali muncul pertanyaan email disertai pertanyaan mengenai informasi apa saja yang dikehendaki untuk didapat. Pada saat seperti ini, Anda berhak untuk menolak dan berkata ‘tidak’ terhadap hal-hal yang mereka tawarkan. Walaupun tidak melalui pendidikan formal, namun seorang wartawan haruslah mengetahui fungsi utama tugasnya sebagai wartawan, yaitu apa yang secara universal dikenal: (1) menyajikan informasi; (2) memberikan pendidikan; (3) memberikan hiburan. Untuk

bisa menjalankan fungsinya ini, seorang wartawan dituntut untuk dapat memenuhi persyaratan tertentu, seorang wartawan dituntut untuk dapat memenuhi persyaratan tertentu, yaitu pertama: memiliki kecerdasan; kedua: senantiasa bersikap waspada; ketiga: memiliki rasa ingin tahu yang tak habis-habisnya; keempat peduli terhadap masyarakat; kelima: akal yang panjang; keenam: memiliki kepekaan terhadap ketidakadilan; dan ketujuh: berani untuk berbeda pendapat dengan pihak yang berkuasa.

Di samping itu tentu saja seorang wartawan harus dapat mengantisipasi kemungkinan risiko yang harus ditanggung dalam melaksanakan kewajibannya.

Kerja Rutin Wartawan dan Kehidupan di dalam News Room

Dalam pelaksanaan tugas jurnalistik di sebuah penerbitan ataupun sebuah stasiun radio/televisi, sebagaimana halnya sebuah institusi, terdapat pembagian tugas yang jelas, demi penjaga kelancaran kerja sehari-hari.

Selain itu setiap insan yang bekerja sebagai seorang wartawan dan menjadi anggota sebuah organisasi yang secara resmi diakui eksistensinya, baik oleh pemerintah maupun oleh masyarakat luas, hendaknya menaati kode etik yang telah diakui dan diterima oleh organisasi tersebut.

Pengertian Berita

Pada dasarnya berita adalah laporan tentang suatu kejadian yang dianggap penting dan menarik. bagi khalayak. Dari berbagai macam batasan yang diberikan orang tentang berita, pada prinsipnya ada unsur penting yang harus diperhatikan yaitu unsur-unsur laporan, kejadian/peristiwa/pendapat yang menarik dan penting, serta disajikan secepat mungkin (terikat oleh waktu). Berita tersebut memiliki beberapa kriteria, antara lain harus akurat, lengkap, objektif, seimbang, jelas dan ringkas.

Berbagai Jenis Berita

Ditinjau dari penyajiannya, berita terdiri dari straight news dan features. Straight news dari soft news dan hard news. Features terdiri dari beberapa macam, mulai dari bright sampai enterprise story.

Dalam media cetak, selain berita juga terdapat berbagai tulisan seperti tajuk rencana, analisis berita, komentar berita, aritkel opini, resensi, pojok dan kolom.

Jenis Tulisan dalam Media Cetak

Jenis tulisan yang biasa muncul dimedia cetak adalah: Features (Karangan Khas), Editorial (Tajuk Rencana), kolom, News Commentary (Komentar Berita), News Analysis (Analisis Berita), Artikel Opini, dan Review/Resensi/Kritik.

Ada 2 teknik menulis resensi/revlew/kritik, yaitu secara impresif dan autoritatif. Kedua jenis metode ini nampaknya terpisah, tetapi dalam kenyataannya, wartawan bidang seni terkadang menggabungkan kedua metode ini.

Pengertian Sumber Berita

Dalam menjalankan tugasnya, seorang wartawan/jurnalis pasti akan berhubungan dengan sumber berita. Sumber berita tidak hanya manusia tetapi juga peristiwa.

Sumber berita merupakan awal dari proses terciptanya berita. Dalam proses inilah diperlukan kemampuan wartawan dalam mencari dan mengolah sumber berita sehingga dapat tercipta sebuah berita yang baik dan benar serta layak ditampilkan.

Metode Perolehan Berita

Terdapat beberapa metode untuk memperoleh berita yang terdiri dari wawancara, observasi, riset kepustakaan, press release/press conference dan statement of informan.

Sebagian besar metode perolehan berita adalah melalui wawancara. Tetapi dalam perkembangan jurnalistik mutakhir, angka dan data dari kepustakaan juga ambil peranan penting. Observasi adalah kegiatan mental yang subjektif dari wartawan sebagai hasil pengolahan stimuli di sekitarnya dan observasi ini digunakan untuk “mempermudah laporan”.

Press Conference, penting terutama untuk memperoleh background information untuk hal-hal yang masih sangat baru. Sedangkan statement of information bukan digunakan sebagai narasumber, tetapi metode yang artinya harus dilacak lagi kebenaran dan kegunaannya bagi masyarakat.

Melindungi Sumber Berita

Dalam membina hubungan dengan narasumber, seorang wartawan harus memperhatikan beberapa etika. Beritahukan tujuan kita kepada narasumber. Lindungilah kredibilitas dan reputasi sumber berita, hargailah hak-hak narasumber, dan jangan sekali-sekali mengharap narasumber “tergelincir” dalam pernyataannya.

Blog kini kian diminati oleh berbagai kalangan. Kita patut bersyukur atas maraknya budaya blog terutama di masyarakat kita. Hal ini menunjukkan semakin meningkatnya semangat masyarakat kita untuk menyatakan pendapat dan pemikirannya, serta membagikannya kepada orang lain.

Namun begitu, ada beberapa hal yang harus tetap diperhatikan dalam membangun satu situs blog, terlebih jika blog tersebut bersifat perorangan. Ada beberapa hal dasar yang harus dipikirkan seseorang agar blog yang dibangunnya dapat berkembang, sehingga tidak selamanya menjadi ‘blog pribadi’ alias benar-benar hanya dinikmati seorang diri tanpa pengunjung.

Beberapa pertimbangan tersebut antara lain adalah :

Fokus dari blog yang akan dibangun. Walaupun dalam sebuah blog kita bebas menuliskan dan memaparkan apapun yang kita mau, namun ada baiknya untuk membuat suatu fokus atau tema tertentu dalam suatu blog. Kalaupun ingin menuliskan beberapa hal di berbagai bidang sekaligus, ada baiknya jika membaginya dalam beberapa kelompok kategori. Karena akan sangat aneh jika ulasan tentang released suatu produk hardware terbaru akan disusul dengan masalah pertahanan keamanan negara. Hal ini tentu saja akan membuat pengunjung bingung dan akhirnya akan malas datang lagi ke blog kita.

Gaya penulisan dan penyajian. Seperti halnya media massa pada umumnya, disadari atau tidak, penyajian dan gaya penulisan seseorang dalam menulis di blog-nya akan sangat berpengaruh pada minat pembaca. Seseorang yang mampu menuangkan pemikirannya dalam gaya penulisan yang menarik dan mudah diikuti, akan membuat para pengunjung betah dan selalu kembali lagi untuk membaca tulisan-tulisannya dan juga bertukar pikiran dengannya.

Desain interface. Secara naluri, manusia akan cepat tertarik pada segala sesuatu yang menarik visualisasinya. Hal inilah yang menjadikan alasan mengapa sebuah blog juga harus mempunyai desain interface (antar muka) yang menarik, karena secara spontan pengunjung akan tertarik secara visualisasi terlebih dahulu sebelum akhirnya kemudian ia memutuskan untuk membaca atau menjelajah, ataupun bergabung dengan sebuah situs blog.

Satu hal lagi yang mungkin selama ini tidak terlalu dipedulikan oleh para blogger, yaitu tentang hosting. Bagi mereka yang membuat blog hanya untuk skala kepentingan non-profesional atau iseng, memakai hosting gratisan seperti Wordpress atau Blogger mungkin tidak akan menjadi masalah. Namun bagi Anda yang membangun blog untuk tujuan profesional, sebaiknya mulai memikirkan masalah hosting ini. Pikirkanlah batasan-batasan yang ditetapkan pihak hosting, apakah akan merugikan Anda di masa yang akan datang? Karena hosting gratis pastilah mempunyai banyak pembatasan hak bagi para pengikutnya. I have a friend who loves to coach. Of course, I am sure what is on your mind is the same thing that is on everyone's mind, how does my friend's teams continually perform on such high levels and beat just about everyone they play against, even when they are smaller and younger then their competitors.

Seeing as how he is my friend, I asked him, and what he told me is this, it's all in the fundamentals.

His practices all consist of helping the kids keep a positive mindset and practicing the fundamentals. He never has his teams scrimmage or strategize about upcoming games during practice. All they do is work on fundamentals of the sport they are playing, and they do this more then any other team they are going to go up against.

Constantly practicing and improving the fundamentals is how his teams progress faster then their competitors. When other teams are getting caught up in winning through strength and strategy, my friend's teams are just so good with the basics that they blow everyone else out of the water.

So this got me thinking about my own internet business and why it is that I have been able to succeed on such a high level when others around me have failed. The answer I came up with isn't that surprising.

When most people are trying to build an online home based business they are doing it by looking for a quick fix. They want whatever they are doing to work NOW, they want instant success. This mentality then makes them prey to all of those business opportunities out there that promise that they will get rich overnight.

They also fall victim to all of the advertising scams out there that say they will deliver thousands of prospects to their site in the next 24 hours. Let me tell you something right now, these programs are only designed to steal your hard earned money.

Why are they still out there then? Simple, when people are desperate and they are out there looking for answers to make their situations better they are looking for something instant, and this makes them easy to be taken advantage of. This also makes their chances for internet success slim to none.

Now, there are thousands of business opportunities on the internet, and there are even more ways to advertise and promote your website. What I personally do is practice the fundamentals. What this means is that I stick with the business opportunities that I joined for the long haul and promoting my website consistently with simple, easily maintained and affordable internet marketing techniques.

The credit crunch. Global economic slowdown. You must be sick to death of hearing those phrases. The general downturn seems to have affected everything from mortgage prices to energy bills, the cost of food and even petrol costs.

What many people haven't realised is that personal loan rates have also been affected by le crunch.

It wasn't so long ago that loans were cheap as chips, on offer at rates well under 6% APR.

But as banks have tightened their belts, rates have increased and the better deals are harder (though not impossible) to find. Which is doubly bad news as the effect of the economic slowdown is that we're all feeling the pinch, classicly a time when many people would look to borrow money to see them through hard times.

Cost of loans

So what's the real difference in cost when it comes down to it?

Well, a £7,500 personal loan at a rate of 5.6% repaid over five years - the sort of deal that was fairly standard a few years ago - would have cost you £143.61 per month with a total repaid of £8,616.

Look again at the best deals now, and things are slightly different. If you've got a squeaky clean credit rating you can still get a deal around 7.5% APR, which would mean your repayments on the same loan above would come in at £150.28 per month, or £9,017 over the lifetime of the loan - an extra £401 in total.

But if your credit rating is less than good, you will do well to get a loan at rates under 17.9%. At that rate a £7,500 loan over five years will cost you £11,402.58 in total and some £190 a month.

Value for money

Of course, there are still competitive deals out there but the most important thing with personal loans is not to assume you will get the best rate advertised. Every loan is dependent on individual's circumstances, so if you're in any doubt about your credit rating, check it out online so that you can make a fairer assumption about the rate you can achieve.

Don't forget that many personal loans still represent better value than credit card borrowing. Standard borrowing rates on credit cards are around 16% APR - that's over double the charge of some of the better personal loans on the market.

So if you find yourself borrowing heavily on credit cards - and your zero per cent deal has expired - then perhaps a loan might be a good way to put your borrowing in one place. Consolidating your debts can reduce your monthly repayments considerably and give you greater control over your finances.

As a new report from Forrester Research indicates, businesses are expected to be less willing to open their wallets for new technology in 2007. Globally, technology goods and services spending is predicted to grow 5 percent next year, to $1.55 trillion. That would be a slowdown from gains of 8 percent in both 2005 and 2006.

A big reason for the decline is the weakening United States economy, which is reverberating through the rest of the world.

But businesses will be more likely to spend money on software than on computers or communications equipment, according to Forrester.

So who knows? Next year could be a turning point for those extra-frugal executives who have been clinging to their Windows 95.

Memiliki blog dengan nama domain top level domain (tanpa embel-embel blogspot, wordpress, multiply dll) tentunya akan membuat blog kita terlihat lebih elit dan berkelas, dan juga akan membuat nama blog kita akan lebih mudah diingat orang. Jika kamu belum memiliki domain, kamu bisa membelinya di dodoldomain.com dengan harga yang cukup murah (he.he.. promosi). Jika kita sudah membeli domain maka ada beberapa hal yang harus kita lakukan supaya domain kita tertuju pada web/blog yg kita punya, diantaranya yaitu setting DNS, Name Server dll. Mari kita mulai saja langkah-langkah untuk customisasi domain ini.

* SETTING DNS (DOMAIN NAME SERVER)
Langkah awal kita yaitu melakukan setting DNS. Biasanya jika kita membeli domain akan ada biaya tambahan (sekitar Rp 3000,-) untuk menambahkan layanan "DNS Managed". Tapi jika kamu tidak ingin mengeluarkan biaya ada layanan gratis supaya kita bisa melakukan setting DNS, seperti di dnspark.net. Nha berikut ini adalah tutorial jika kam menggunakan layanan dari dnspark ini :

1. Jika kamu belum memiliki account di dnspark km bisa daftar di https://www.dnspark.net/register.
2. Jika sudah daftar silahkan login.
3. Pilih menu "DNS Hosting" (disebelah kiri). Kemudian pilih "Add Domains"
4.Beri tanda centang kotak "DNS Hosting - Free" lalu Isikan nama domain yang sudah km beli di kolom "Enter new domain" (tanpa www).
5. Kemudian Klik tombol "Add Now"
6. Jika berhasil maka nama domainmu akan muncul di "Domain List" (pojok kiri bawah)
7. Klik domain km untuk melakukan pengaturan selanjutnya.
8. Pada Dropdown "Type" pilih "CNAME".
9. Pada Kolom "Alias Name" isikan www (sebenarnya itu bisa diisi apa saja, tp untuk domain utam sebaiknya diisi "www").
10. Kemudian untuk destination name isikan ghs.google.com (untuk blogspot).
11. Jika sudah klik tombol "Update All"

Untuk proses setting DNS sudah selesai.

Bagi yang sudah punya "DNS Managed" sendiri di domainnya, cara settingnya seperti ini:
- Masuk ke "Managed DNS" Trus Pilih "CNAME Records"
- Kemudina klik tombol "Add CNAME Records"
- Untuk kolom "Host Name" diisi dengan "www"
- Untuk Kolom "Value" pilih yg bagian bawah kemudian isi dengan "ghs.google.com"
- Kemudian Klik tombol "Add record"

Selesai deh...

* SETTING NS (NAME SERVER)
Bagi yang sudah memiliki "Mange DNS Service" sendiri di domainnnya maka langkah berikut ini tidak perlu dilakukan. Tapi jika kamu menggunakan layanan DNS Manger dari dnspark.net, maka kamu harus merubah "Name Server" di domain manager kamu. Bagi yang membeli domain dari dodoldomain.net maka langkah-langkahnya adalah seperti berikut ini, (bagi yang beli ditempat lain saya rasa hampir sama langkah2nya)

1. Login di dodoldomain.net kemudian pilih "My Account"
2. Jika sudah maka kamu akan berada dalam kawasan "admin area" domainmu.
3. Pilih menu "Domain --> List Last 10"
4. Domain kamu akan terlihat di "List of Domain"
5. Klik link "Domain Name --> Click to Manage"

6 Kemudian klik tombol "Modify Name Server".

7 Isikan name server berikut kedalam kolom "Name Server1, Name Server2, Name Server3, Name Server4, Name Server5" kemudian klik tombol "Submit"

Nah urusan dengan si "Name Server" Sudah Selesai

* SETTING PUBLISHING DI BLOGGER

1. Login di blogger. Pilih menu "Setting --> Publishing"
2. Kemudian klik link Switch to : Custom Domain
3. Kemudian klik lagi link Already own a domain? Switch to advanced settings
4. Kemudian isikan nama blog kamu di kolom "Your Domain" (pake www ya, contoh www.kendhin.com)
5. Lalu Klik tombol "Save Setting"

Yak Semua sudah selesai. Jika semua settingan tadi dilakukan dengan benar maka domain kamu yang baru akan aktif sekitar 1-24 jam bahkan bisa nyampe 48 jam.. Jadi sabar aja.
